Oxjam Cake Walks around Birmingham City Centre
Jul 3rd
This year, the Oxjam Birmingham Music Festival has been generously supported by Chitty’s Cake Company, who have donated some of their delicious bespoke cakes to raise even more money for Oxfam this year. As part of the donation, the Oxjam team decided to go on a Cake Walk around Birmingham, to offer up some of the yummy cupcakes to people in and around Birmingham.
On June 27th, Alex, Gena, Amy & Emily dashed around the city centre with four trays of Chitty’s tailor-made cupcakes, chatting to the public about Oxjam Brum and the work of Oxfam. The delicious cakes were snapped up within a mere two hours and were particularly enjoyed by the staff at Specsavers, New Street, who were hungry enough to buy two trays just for themselves.
Then on the 30th, Gail and another volunteer from the team, went to Virgin Trains HQ, where you can
see that the cakes were scooped up during a welcome break, alongside some mid-morning tea. Next up, was the Queensgate office block, (where the Oxfam Midlands office is based) and then finally some Jewellery Quarter shops were treated to the last trays of Chitty’s fantastic cakes!
This support has kick started the fundraising for the Oxjam Brum campaign and Rebecca, founder of Chitty’s Cake Company, is really excited to be working with Oxjam Brum and will be providing themed cupcakes for some of their events this summer. A total of £251.96 was raised over the two days, which is an amazing start to the fundraising for the Oxjam Brum Takeover 2011. A massive thank you must go to Chitty’s Cake Company and also to anybody who bought a cake in the shops of the City Centre, the Jewellery Quarter and particularly Virgin Trains, Queensgate and Specsavers.
More info on Chitty’s Cakes Company:- All cakes are tailor made to each customer’s individual
requirements in flavour, design and dietary requirements. Free delivery to Birmingham city centre
had made Chitty’s bespoke cakes really popular for people working in Birmingham, and for a
small charge delivery can be made all over the Midlands. Designs range from simple and classic
to very colourful and quirky – every theme and event can be turned into a cake! The fun website
www.chittyscakecompany.co.uk has more pictures and information.
OxjamBrum do The Three Peaks Challenge
Jun 7th
We’ve gone a bit bonkers here at OxjamBrum HQ and as part of our fundraising mission, a few of the team are taking up the Three Peaks Challenge (with a little twist). This will involve climbing the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike & Mount Snowdon) – all within 24 hours!
We’re going to take a ukulele with us and belt out some out-of-tune singing at the top of each one. We’ll also keep you all updated with some Twitter updates, photos and videos on the trip.
We’d greatly appreciate it if you’d like to sponsor us – our target is a rather ambitious £2000, but this could be used to help build a whole classroom (see Oxfam Unwrapped for more info) and £10 education kits to go with it. Please visit our sponsorship page for more information
Stay tuned for more updates and to follow our progress towards the target, please ‘Like Us‘ on Facebook or follow us on Twitter
Thanks,
Alex, James, Andy & The OxjamBrum Team xx
