Love Is In The Air… Speed Dating Night A Huge Success
Aug 27th

Thank you to everyone that came along to support our musical themed ‘Top 40 Singles’ Speed Dating night last night. The night raised over £200, which is enough to buy four goat couples for a family in need. The night was a first for the OxjamBrum team and we are happy to say was a great success. With lots of first time speed daters the atmosphere to begin was little tense, but after the free Pimms had been drained and the first track – the Proclaimers, I wanna be (500 miles), had been spun, the conversation (and drinks) were flowing.
The songs provided a great conversation starter (or stopper in the odd case) and its a braver man than us that admits to a Will Young track as his favourite tune. The night continued onto the Vic as new friendships began and people tried to ply us with alcohol to find out who’d given them a yes. But we were keeping schtum. So the matches have been made and now we’ll just wait and see, we’re not rushing out to buy a new hat just yet. But watch this space.
Missed out? Speed Dating not your thing? Already Taken? Then join us at one of our other events, not an awkward silence to be heard.

Photos from Music at Urban Coffee Company Evening

On Friday 25th June OxjamBrum and Blue Whale Studios presented an after work music and art event. We ate cake, drank coffee cocktails (cofftails!) and enjoyed music from Tom Peel, Marlem, Elisa Little and Alex Moir. We also had a demonstration in live T-shirt printing by our good friends at INKwell. A good time was had by all and we raised lots of money for Oxfam in the process.

Oh What a Night!
Apr 20th

Friday got a bit messy didn’t it?
We presented our first show of 2010 at The Victoria and raised over £300 for Oxfam. Over a hundred of you turned up to say ‘I’m a Sister’, and yes we have the photos to prove it, whilst we showcased Brum’s finest female fronted bands. Thanks to Jodi for holding the night together. You also scoffed all of the delightful cake courtesy of Simarjeet, Vlad and Cherry Sprinkles. And once the wonderful live music had finished we all danced till we dropped to those wonderful ATTA girl DJs.
We’re still trying to recover if we’re honest, and did someone take our ‘I’m a Sister’ spot home to have a rest? It was looking a bit worse for wear towards the end! Frisbee anyone?
Regional Events Campaigner: Music
Mar 8th
Exciting news… this Oxfam internship: “Regional Events Campaigner: Music” is still open!
We’re looking for an enthusiastic person to grow Oxfam’s Campaigning presence in the Midlands music scene.
The position is 2-4 days a week from 22 March – November 2010. It is voluntary but expenses are reinbursed.
This position will involve managing Local Event Campaigns Coordinators in key towns and cities who will in turn manage their own teams of Event Campaigners. You will help develop an overall campaigns outreach strategy, help local Coordinators research potential event opportunities, and with larger events and festivals also help to manage Oxfam’s presence.
You will need to work closely with staff and volunteers working on community and student activism, and the annual Oxjam festival.
So, if your passionate about campaigning for Oxfam and the Midlands Music scene, give Charli Livingstone a call but you’ll have to be quick! Interviews are being held on Wednesday 10 March so if you are keen.

OxjamBrum Presents . . .
Upstairs at The Victoria on Friday 16th April we will be presenting a very special extra OxjamBrum gig. This one is to raise money and awareness for Oxfam’s Sisters on the Planet Campaign whilst showcasing some of the region’s finest female fronted acts.
Sounds pretty good eh? Now all we need is a name . . . can you help? We want something that sums up the essence of the event; that our local female artists are coming together to highlight the difficulties and poverty poorer women experience.
So suggest a brilliant name in the comments section of this blog post for our event and you could win 2 tickets. OxjamBrum presents . . . you decide!
